What is it? Spiritual direction is an old term (going back centuries) but many have never heard of it. At its core, spiritual direction is about noticing where God is present in one’s life and growing in this awareness and one’s response. The inevitable result? A deepening intimacy with the Divine.
In spiritual direction we attune to the deepest desires, those at the core of your being that beckon you forward into the fullness of experiencing who you are as the Beloved.
This is practical spirituality because it applies to everything you do. Dreams, goals, decisions, strategy (which fall under the coaching role)…it impacts all realms of your life and, in turn, affects the impact you make on the world around you.
By it’s nature, given that it is about relationship, spiritual direction has a more open-ended quality whereas coaching is often finite, being outcome-driven and goal-oriented. Both have their place and applications.

A person of life-long faith, raised in the Protestant tradition, I first learned about spiritual direction during a time, years ago, when I was seeking to hear God’s voice more clearly for my life and decision-making.
When I encountered Ignatian Spirituality (Ignatian spiritual discernment in particular), a very quick cascade of events unfolded: I sought out a spiritual director to work with; began spiritual direction; realized I wanted to become a spiritual director myself, and went on to complete my training.
